The Secret of Chimneys
Anthony Cade serves as a tourist guide in South Africa. One day he is visited by his friend Jimmy McGrath, who offers to take care of a work in simple appearance: to bring the controversial memories of the late Count Stylptich of Herzosloania to an English newspaper for publication.

The action takes place in Madrid, around the date of the king's death, in an atmosphere of political, courtesan and sentimental intrigues. This gives the novelist a chance to make a considerable number of curious types, from Father Chamizo to the theosophical midwife.
