The fables of Esopo have their origin in the archaic era. They were collected in the 4th century BC by Demetrio de Falero, but that collection was lost. The main collection of fables attributed to Esopo, on which many modern editions are based, is the so-called "Augustana," anonymous, which some authors date in the first or second century and others in the fifth century, and is complemented by two other anonymous collections: the Vindobonense, of the sixth century, and the Accursiana, probably of the ninth century.
