He finds that his father, Don Pedro, is preparing to marry with the young 20-year-old Pepita Jiménez and widow of an octogenary. The contacts between the future priest and the young widow are new to the young man as he has spent his adolescence in the seminary, and little by little he feels his vocation thwarted.
