August "Auggie" Pullman is a 10-11 year-old boy born with Treacher Collins' Syndrome, a genetic disorder characterized by craniofacial malformations. His parents overprotect him and treat him like a little boy, which makes his older sister, Olivia, sometimes feel displaced. Due to several surgical interventions and the required care, he has never attended school, receiving domestic education from his mother.
