In the years of the French Revolution, the French-German struggle generates thousands of fugitives. They are the displaced who have "long drunk the bitter cup of this century." The marriage that governs the plateau of a German people is driven to help those poor people who wander sick, hungry and almost naked, and sends their son Hermann with food and coat.
