New paths and misfortunes of the Lazarillo de Tormes

Cela considers the Lazarillo a critical book, a book that points to a time of crisis. And it is, indeed. But from that crisis it was not depauperated, but strengthened. The Lazarillo is a masterpiece that today has a long history of editions. It's not a current picaresque novel essay. The word essay does not respond to its condition or merits. It is simply a Picaresque novel that does not dishonor or break the branch from which it was born.
