Andrei Kurkov

Andrei Yuyevich Kurkov was born on April 23 in Leningrad. Son of a test pilot and a doctor, he began writing at age seven when two of his three hamsters died and decided to dedicate a poem on solitude to the survivor.

Misha had appeared 'chez' Viktor a year ago, when the zoo was distributing hungry animals to anyone who could feed them. Viktor had passed by and returned with a king penguin. His girl had left him a week ago and he was lonely. But Misha had brought him his own solitude and now the result was two complementary solages, which gave more impression of interdependence than of friendship.
